Passengers on a Spirit Airlines flight from Jamaica to Florida were ordered to prepare for a possible water landing after the aircraft had to be turned back due to a suspected mechanical issue.
Video from inside the cabin of the plane shows the worry and panic as a full-scale emergency was declared, with passengers being told to wear life jackets and brace for impact.
One passenger, who spoke to WJW, recalled the tense moments as the plane began to descend rapidly.
"We started hearing these loud noises, and then the plane started shaking violently," said the passenger. "The flight attendants came on the intercom and told us to prepare for a water landing."
The plane eventually landed safely at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, but the incident has raised questions about the safety of Spirit Airlines.
Spirit Airlines has issued a statement saying that it is investigating the incident and that the safety of its passengers is its top priority.
